Solar Installer on the Central Coast — A System Sized for Your Home, Not a Sales Target

Plenty of Central Coast homes end up with solar that's too small to cover their bills or too big for what they actually use. We start with your power usage and your roof, then design a system that matches — proper CEC-approved gear, installed by licensed electricians and built for the coast.

Licensed solar installation and servicing for homes and businesses right across the Central Coast.

Residential solar panel installation on a tiled Central Coast roof

Residential Solar Panel Installation

The core job, done properly: CEC-approved panels matched to your roof, your usage and your budget — not a one-size box deal. We assess shading, orientation and roof type, then install and commission a system you can rely on through a Coast summer.

Solar System Design & Sizing

The part most installers rush. We read your actual power bill and daily usage, then size the array and inverter to it — enough to cover your days without paying for panels you'll never use. Get the sizing right and everything else follows.

Solar Inverter Installation & Replacement

The inverter is the hardest-working part of your system and the first to age out. We install and replace string, hybrid and micro-inverters across the major CEC-approved brands, matched to your panels so the whole system pulls its weight again.

Hybrid Solar & Battery-Ready Systems

Not ready for a battery today but want the option later? We design hybrid, battery-ready systems so adding storage down the track is a simple bolt-on, not a re-install. Done right from day one, you're not paying twice.

About Us

Central Coast Electricians Who Do Solar the Honest Way

Zen is a licensed Central Coast electrical and solar business, owned and run by Hannes. Solar is electrical work before it's a sales product — the design, the wiring, and the compliance are what decide whether a system performs for twenty years or disappoints in five. That trade-first approach is the whole difference in how we work.

With over 10 years on the Coast, we've designed and installed systems on everything from new builds to weatherboard homes with original switchboards. We'll tell you straight what your place needs — the right system size, whether the board needs attention first, and what's genuinely worth spending on — then quote it properly before a panel goes up.

  • Licensed electricians, SAA accredited for solar & battery
  • We live and work on the Central Coast — no call centres, no subbies
  • Every system designed to your real usage, not an off-the-shelf package

Still Got Questions?

Solar on the Central Coast — Your Questions Answered

How do you decide what size solar system I need?
We start with your actual electricity use — a recent bill, when you use power through the day, and what's coming (a battery, an EV, a pool). Then we look at your roof: usable area, orientation and shading. The system gets sized to match that, not to a sales target. Oversize it and you export cheaply; undersize it and you keep buying expensive grid power. Getting this right is the single biggest decision in the whole job.
What makes a solar installer worth choosing over a cheap online deal?
The panels on a budget package and a quality one can look similar on paper — the difference is the design, the install, and who's there in five years. We're licensed electricians who design to your home, install to AS/NZS standards, and stand behind the work locally. The cheapest systems are usually sold by call centres and installed by whoever's cheapest that week, with no one to call when something drifts.
Are you SAA accredited?
Yes. We hold full Solar Accreditation Australia (SAA) accreditation for grid-connected solar (GCPV) and battery systems (GCBS) — the national accreditation that replaced the CEC installer scheme. It's a legal requirement for any system claiming the federal STC rebate, and we only install CEC-approved panels, inverters and batteries.
Does the Central Coast get enough sun for solar to be worth it?
Comfortably. The Coast gets strong, reliable year-round sun, and modern panels generate meaningful power even under light cloud. Output dips on overcast days and rises in summer, but across a full year a well-designed system delivers predictable totals. Whether it's worth it for your home comes down to your usage and how the system is sized — which is exactly what we work out before quoting.
What solar brands do you install?
We install CEC-approved panels, inverters and batteries from established brands with a real local support presence — because a warranty is only as good as the company still being around to honour it. We're not tied to one manufacturer, so we recommend what suits your roof and budget rather than whatever we're pushing. Ask and we'll explain the trade-offs honestly.
Can I add a battery to my system later?
Yes — if it's designed for it now. We build hybrid, battery-ready systems so storage can be added later without replacing the inverter or re-doing the install. If you already have an older system, we'll check whether the existing inverter is hybrid-ready or whether an AC-coupled battery is the smarter path. Planning for it upfront saves paying twice.
How do solar rebates work, and do I have to claim them?
The main one is the federal STC scheme, which lowers the upfront cost of an eligible system. You don't claim it yourself — we handle the paperwork and the rebate comes off your quoted price, so the number you see is already the net cost. Battery and other incentives change over time; we'll tell you what currently applies to your job when we quote.
Do I need council approval for solar in NSW?
Most standard rooftop installs on the Coast fall under NSW Exempt Development and don't need council approval. The exceptions are heritage-listed homes, conservation areas and some unusual building types. Separate from council, there's network approval from the local electricity provider, which we handle for you. We check your property type before install so nothing's missed.
What's the difference between string, micro and hybrid inverters?
A string inverter is the common, cost-effective choice for an unshaded roof. Microinverters sit under each panel and suit roofs with shading or multiple orientations, since one shaded panel won't drag the rest down. A hybrid inverter does the job of a string inverter but is also ready to run a battery. We match the inverter type to your roof and your plans rather than defaulting to one.
Why does roof orientation and tilt matter so much?
Because it decides when your panels make power. North-facing panels produce the most over a day; east and west split generation toward morning and afternoon, which can actually suit a household that uses power at those times. Tilt, shading and roof type all factor in too. We model your specific roof so the array is laid out for your usage, not just maximum theoretical output.
How long do solar panels last?
Quality panels are built to last 25 years or more, with product and performance warranties to match, and most keep working at slightly reduced output well beyond that. Inverters work harder and generally have shorter lives — they're expected to be replaced or extended under warranty partway through the system's life. Good gear and a proper install make the biggest difference to how it holds up.
Does coastal salt air affect solar panels?
It's worth accounting for. Homes close to the water deal with salt-laden air that, over years, can affect mounting hardware and unrated components. We use corrosion-rated mounting and quality panels built for Australian coastal conditions, and our maintenance checks keep an eye on the fixings. It's one more reason the install quality matters more than the sticker price near the coast.
Can I run my EV off my solar?
Yes — and it's one of the best uses of a system. A solar-aware charger can prioritise the power your roof makes through the day instead of exporting it for a low feed-in rate. If an EV is on the horizon, we'll design the solar side and pre-plan the wiring now so adding the charger later is straightforward. (The charger install itself is electrical work we also handle.)
My old system isn't producing what it used to — can you help?
Usually, yes. Dropping output often traces to an ageing or faulted inverter, soiled or shaded panels, or a system that was simply undersized for how your usage has grown. We performance-test the system, find what's actually going on, and tell you whether it's a clean, a repair, an inverter swap or an upgrade — straight answer, no upsell.
Do you offer free quotes?
Yes — free, no-obligation system design and quotes across the Central Coast. For most homes we can do a lot from a recent power bill and a few photos of your roof and switchboard, sent through the chat or enquiry form. For larger or trickier jobs, and commercial sites, we'll arrange a site visit and provide a fixed written quote.
What areas do you cover?
We're based on the Central Coast and design and install across the whole region — all areas of the Central Coast and everywhere between. Because solar is researched and bought regionally rather than by suburb, we treat the entire Coast as our patch.
